James Perkins MCIOB (Director)
Graduating from the University of Plymouth in 2011 with a BSc (Hons) Building Surveying and the Environment degree James spent the summer after graduation working within the Building Control Office at East Devon District Council.
After these 3 months with the Council, James gained employment with Sungift Solar, an award winning Renewable Energy company based out of Exeter. Progressing from his initial role of Estimator through to Project Manager of medium to large Solar Photovoltaic systems.
In 2014 James joined EmanuelHendry in a primarily site based role and learned the skills of traditional heavy timber framing – in particular its continued use within contemporary building design. Whilst at EmanuelHendry, James gained Chartered Builder status via the Chartered Institute of Builders (CIOB).
James is looking to continue this narrative of creative use of timber within building design, in particular the application of heavy timber framing within the structural element of buildings.
Looking to continue with his Professional Development, James Perkins has enrolled in stage 1 & 2 & 3 of the Professional School of Practical Stereotomy. These courses will further the use of advanced geometry within the design and implementation of the bespoke timber structures that Perkins-Brown create.
